All The Pretty Ladies

What I do here on the blog is really amateur stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this project and that it gets me to draw every day and I really do believe that my illustrations have gotten better since day 1.

But sometimes I’ll discover an illustrator so gifted it just makes all my work look like a total hack.

That is how I felt when I discovered the portfolio of Cédric Rivrain. I honestly can’t remember where I first saw it but it moved me enough to write his name down with double underlines and stars around it.

I love the ethereal beauty of this work and his delicate line. Rivrain’s subjects (mostly models and friends) are incredibly beautiful on their own but Rivrain seems to make them even more so as he captures them on the page.

Hope you like his work as much as I do.

If you are interested to know more, you can check out Rivrain’s blog and read this interview with him over on the Opening Ceremony blog.

Here are a few more pieces from Rivrain’s portfolio.

Rivrains’s work is so beautiful in his own time/setting! I can see it in the future as period in the as we look at Renoir’s ladies or Lautrec’s salon women. That said, Miss Caroline, your work is the new rage toward fresh, daring, “live improv” using watercolor sketch in a photo perfect visual culture.. We who went to art school pre- digital are scratching our heads. I have always loved my rough sketches more than my “finished” art so now our rough drafts are perfectly imperfect. (Wabisabi
I and others have a huge portfolio of sensitve figure drawings that may not rival Rivrain, but close in style…and no market has ever existed for most 0f us figure fashion lovers.I LOVE your fresh imagery. Thanks for the blog.
