Object/Outfit + An Education

With the Oscars coming up this weekend, I thought it would be fun to create a look from one of the films.

I’ve always been a big Oscar fan but this year is especially fun because there are so many great movies in the running.

Fashionably speaking, An Education was a total standout this year. Carey Mulligan is beautiful and brilliant as a modern-day Lolita.

The clothes for the men and the women are perfect and make you long to live in the days of 60′s London were each man’s suit is perfectly tailored and a woman never takes off her kitten heels.

Inspired by Refinery29′s post, I wanted to make my own modern ensemble for this movie.

I started with a handpainted floral dress from Kate Spade and paired with a coral belt and tights. I have a bit of an obsession with the A.P.C. Spring 10 coats and couldn’t resist adding this chambray swing number.

Finally, did you know handbag company Coach still sells vintage styles from their archive on their website? I love the Willis Bag, it perfectly walks the line between schoolgirl and girl about town.

Film still from An Education. Outfit clockwise from top left: APC  Brittany-Style Mac, Kate Spade Garden Party Reina Dress; Hue Coral Tights (from Loris Shoes); Coach Willis Bag (scroll to bottom of page); Hermes Edition Leica M7; Cole Haan Ceci Air Low Sling; Piazza Sempione Leather & Grosgrain Belt (via Saks).
