Sweet Mom

In the spirit of Halloween, I couldn’t resist sharing this lovely project my mother just did.

Inspired by Sweet Paul’s Louis Vuitton pumpkin–featured in the fabulous Fall issue of his magazine–my mother decided to paint up her own LV pumpkin. Doesn’t it look great!

Object/Outfit + Designtripper

Today’s inspiration comes from new-on-my-radar  travel/home design blog Designtripper.

I love the Fall colors in this midwestern farmhouse and it inspired me to make a cozy, sophisticated look in an autumnal palette. I am also starting to change my tune on those Tommy Hilfiger boots even since I saw Garance Doré wearing them over on Sartorialist. And how much do you want that coat!!!

Have a great Halloween this weekend! I plan to dress Marlow up in costume (yep, I’m one of those people) and make something warm and pumpkiny.

All The Pretty Ladies

What I do here on the blog is really amateur stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this project and that it gets me to draw every day and I really do believe that my illustrations have gotten better since day 1.

But sometimes I’ll discover an illustrator so gifted it just makes all my work look like a total hack.

That is how I felt when I discovered the portfolio of Cédric Rivrain. I honestly can’t remember where I first saw it but it moved me enough to write his name down with double underlines and stars around it.

I love the ethereal beauty of this work and his delicate line. Rivrain’s subjects (mostly models and friends) are incredibly beautiful on their own but Rivrain seems to make them even more so as he captures them on the page.

Hope you like his work as much as I do.

If you are interested to know more, you can check out Rivrain’s blog and read this interview with him over on the Opening Ceremony blog.

Here are a few more pieces from Rivrain’s portfolio.

Wooly Bully

Last Fall I noticed that girls were gravitating towards furry vests as the weather started to cool.

Fuzzy and warm are two qualities that are hard to resist in a winter clothing piece, you know?

Fur is still around in a big way but if it just isn’t your bag here’s a new crop of sweaters that just might be.

I’m loving these loopy knit, beefy and beasty styles that give the illusion of the texture of fur while still in a knit piece.

The texture is really new and interesting and they look oh so fuzzy and oh so warm.

When the temperature drops again I know what I’ll be cozying up in.

LGTM ♥ Weddings!

Brides-to-be everywhere freaked out and did a little jig last week when Loeffler Randall announced their new wedding footwear line during Bridal Fashion Week, set to launch for Spring 2011.

I did a little jig of my own as well–not just because I love their designs and the bridal styles look particularly gorgeous–but the lace up mesh bootie that I posted recently here on LGTM is one of the styles being revamped for brides! This shoe is equally amazing worn from day to day as it is for the big day!

I know I’ll definitely be considering some of these styles myself for my own big day.

Who’s That Lady?

Gasp! Oh my god! It’s meeeeeeeeeeeee!

I rarely post photos of myself on the blog because truth be told, I really don’t like posing for them. I never know where to put my feet or my hands and I can’t seem to do anything with my mouth except grin like a kid on school picture day.

But all that aside, sometimes you have to suck it up and smile for the camera, right?

I thought you might like to see how my take on my weekend style inspiration worked out. So, how’d I do?

Here I am sporting skirt and blazer as promised with my new favorite boots (so comfortable, I wear them everywhere!) and Annie Hall-inspired hat.

Saturday was the perfect Fall day, clear and blue and not too warm or too cold. I spent it shopping with friends in the city though (sadly) not buying anything except some treats at Economy Candy and pork buns from Baohaus–amazing melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness!

Check out the pork buns along with more snaps from the weekend over on my Tumblr.

Weekend Style

Hi there! No time for an illustrated blog post this morning we went out to a show for CMJ last night and when we got home I just had to catch up on Top Chef Just Desserts before bed.

(Does anyone else love this show? I am obsessed with Eric who is from Brooklyn’s own Baked–which you know I adore–he has been such a lovely competitor so far, really honest and kind and his food is beautiful! Mmm Baked, maybe I’ll go there this weekend!)

Speaking of the weekend, here’s a photo with some great style inspiration for weekend dressing. I’ve been really loving my new long chiffon skirt from American Apparel. I can’t stop wearing it.

This shot makes me want to pair it with a slouchy black tee and a brown belt and pair of boots. Of course given the chilly temperatures in NYC I’ll probably have to throw on my new favorite Madewell blazer. (Now on sale, snap one up!) Don’t forget the red lips either!

I am loving the new long lengths and drapey shapes. What will you be wearing this weekend?

Either/Or

Borrowed from the boys fashion is definitely here to stay.

And I’m quite happy with that.

My style tends to be more casual than dressed up so I love any look that favors pairing baggy jeans with my heels or flat shoes with dresses.

Flat, menswear-inspired shoes are my favorite part of the tomboy trend. You only need one pair to wear with everything like a true gent.

I love a snappy pair of black penny loafers but I also want a pair of brown lace-up oxfords to complete my boyfriend look.

So friends, either/or, which boyish footwear strikes your fancy more: loafers or oxfords?

*Oxfords clipped from The Sartorialist. Loafers (on Alexa of course) from here.

Everything In It’s Place

I discovered Carl Kleiner‘s work while reading about Ikea’s newest venture, a cookbook! (Sadly only available in Ikea stores in Sweden).

I totally loved the OCD mise-en-place styling for the shoot and clicked over to Kleiner’s website where I discovered more of these playful photographs with food and also clothing and accessories!

Maybe I am stretching a bit but I just saw a bit of a link between the projects. Plus I couldn’t decide which one I wanted to show you more, they are just so cool!

Since LGTM is about fashion and food (among other things), I am giving you both works in a bit of an inspirational mash-up. They look so good together, don’t you think!?

Read more about the Ikea cookbook here and here.

Gimmie!

I’ve been coveting an aviator cap ever since Hanneli posted this photo last February.

Luckily Rag & Bone read my mind.

I put their Knit Helmet Hat on during my visit to the Brooklyn Barneys this past weekend and it was the one.

Don’t know how I walked out of the store without it (though the 70 degree weather might have been a factor), but I know I am definitely going back!
