Atlanta Packing List

Sorry about the lack of posting today. I completely overslept and woke up at the time I usually leave my house. This left me feeling a few steps behind all day long.

But the good news is, my week is already over! Tomorrow morning I am heading to Atlanta, GA for the weekend to visit with friends. It’s my first trip there I am so excited!

However, the weather is predicting 80something degrees for Atlanta and…thunderstorms!

It has been so long since summer, I can’t even begin to recall what 80+ degrees feels like and the thunderstorm element definitely throws a kink in my outfitting plans.

For this trip I am going to keep it simple with neutral-toned basics.

Starting with my new Sperry boat shoes (waterproof, how handy!), I’m throwing in some T by Alexander Wang tees and tanks, a striped denim mini, my Theory LBD, a pair of black ballet flats, my new favorite pants (the Skimmer from J.Crew, I love these!), a requisite striped shirt and of course…my umbrella. (Note to self for next trip: go somewhere where it does not rain. Ever.)

Have a great weekend everybody. I know I will rain or shine!

Either/Or

I’ve always had a bit of a thing for jumpsuits.

Something about the attached shirt/pants combo is easy, effortless and still very stylish. It’s no wonder I have quite a collection.

Wearing a jumpsuit makes me feel like I just stepped off the set of Charlie’s Angles. They are a little bit powerful, a little bit sexy and channel the diva prowess of Beyoncé (if ever there was a woman who knew how to rock a onesie).

Each year we see a new twist on the jumpsuit. I am majorly digging this season’s slouchy cargo-inspired looks. Safari meets mechanic detailing sewn up in luxe silks that drape so well on the body.

As usual I am torn.

I love this army green number on the left from Madison Marcus. It has that great assymetrical collar and waist-cinching belt.

On the other hand, the slim cut black number from DVF screams summertime sexpot.

I know both are good but which is better?? Slouchy, silk fatigue or skinny, sultry black?

Basket Full Of Kisses

Lately it seems I can’t leave the house without shellacking my lips in some kind of knock-out shade.

Against the neutral tones of grey, khaki, and white that everyone is wearing for Spring, a shot of color across the lips feels sexy and perfect.

Lipstick was big on the runways for Spring. Colors ran the gamut from super matte, nude lips at Alexander Wang to red and glistening like a candied cherry at Prada, there was a perfect shade for every kisser.

Lipstick is a fun, feminine way to leave your winter blahs behind. Lately I’ve been dividing my days between shimmery nude, stop-sign red and hot hot pink. It all depends on how the spirit moves me right as I walk out the door.

Here are some of my favorite shades for Spring. What color will you be wearing?

From left: Lorac Breakthrough Performance Lipstick - Nude Scene; Makeup Forever Lacquered Lipstick - #204 (used at the Prada show!); Lancome + Chris Benz - ”Chris and Tell” (preorder from Saks); Clinique High Impact Lip Color - Peach Pop; Nars – Funny Face (of course!)

By The Book

I was out with a friend this weekend who told me that while she loves LGTM, she wants to see more about the clothes I actually wear featured here on the blog.

I thought about it and, while I might get carried away talking about all of the beautiful things out there in the world that I don’t own, some of you may be interested in some of the stuff I actually do wear on a daily basis, right?

I put together a few of my signature looks with the nifty Stylebook app on my iPhone. Here’s my all-time favorite weekend ensemble.

A striped shirt (of course) paired with white jeans, my Rodarte for Target denim jacket (love that thing!), purple watch and yellow sky high Hasbeens. For a bonus, the vintage tortoise-shell specs I picked up at the Manhattan Vintage Show on Friday.

Happy Birthday Marlow!

Today is our miniature dashchund Marlow’s 2nd birthday!

It also happens to be Dashchund Day here New York.

This means that all of the super crazy dashchund owners congregate in Washington Square Park with their dogs (many in costume, though not Marlow) and pretty much stand around for an hour or two. Sounds weird but it’s actually quite fun and, the perfect way to celebrate a puppy birthday.

In honor of Marlow’s big day, here is a photo of our bed with the amazing pillowcase that a friend embroidered for me as a wonderful gift.

(We’re relatively super crazy dachshund owners ourselves).

10 Things I Want For Spring!

I wanted to tell you how excited I am to be featured on the Lemondrop blog today!

I curated my Spring fashion picks into a handy little shopping list for you.

Since I’ve already got summer vacation on the brain, I imagined I was packing for a quick getaway and could only bring pieces that could mix and match with each other.

I think there are some great looks in there and almost all of it is budget friendly too!

Here is a little taste of what I picked. For shopping information and the full list, check me out over on Lemondrop!

Object/Outfit + Marcus Nilsson

Warm weather always brings the promise of picnics and barbeques, two of my favorite summer activities.

I recently stumbled upon the portfolio of food photographer Marcus Nilsson via one of my favorite food blogs Oh Joy Eats.

I love the unfussy, upfront quality of his work.

I was particularly smitten with this picnic shot. Even though the food looks a bit unappetizing (though I think that is the idea), there is something about the colors and composition that just makes me think mmmmmm summer!

With summer on the brain I just had to pull together my perfect picnic-friendly look. I combined a red gingham shirt and crisp khaki skirt and then finished my look with some boho accessories and a fancy ring made from a spoon as a nod to the silverware in the photo.

Last but not least, a minty straw hat from Eugenia Kim’s collection for Target. I love how it perfectly complemented the mysterious green vegetable (animal? mineral?) in the photo!

While it will be raining in New York this weekend, I hope the rest of you have sunny days and picnics to go to.

Have a great weekend!

Either/Or

Think about your perfect summer weekend look.

Ok, now think about how much better your perfect summer weekend look would be, with a pair striped shoes.

Infinitely better, right?

Right.

Like I’ve been saying and saying, stripes are a hot commodity this season and I think that’s great.

I love the idea of finishing a simple outfit with a pair of striated kicks. They are a sporty and cute twist on a blazer with cutoffs or black skinny jeans and an oxford button-down.

I picked out two adorable ways to wear stripes on your feet in style.

I love the Keds because the remind me of the carefree days of my youth when Keds were all I wore all summer long. Plus, they’ve been making a seriously cool comeback recently with the help of some awesome collaborators.

I also love these striped lace-ups by F-Troupe that are a little more sophisticated and savvy. The leather piping and rounded toe add a feminine spin to the menswear-inspired look.

So readers, which one? Young at heart lace-ups or all grown up brogues?

Gimmie!

Remember when I was crazy for colored pants last week? And then before, when I told you about my love of high-waisted skinny jeans?

Well, it seems somebody out there heard me before I even said the words.

I am currently coveting this High Waist Slim Fit Jean from supercool Danish line Wood Wood.

These jeans have all the right proportions and to top it all off, they are the softest, gentlest shade of lilac I have ever seen. If this isn’t the perfect pair of pants then I don’t know what is!

Jeans are available at Gargyle in NYC.

Fashion Crush: Anna Dello Russo

I have had a blossoming crush on Vogue Nippon’s Fashion Director Anna Dello Russo since I started noticing her vibrant and totally posh style on The Sartorialist about a year or so ago.

Anna is a true force of fashion, she is notorious for wearing looks plucked straight from the runway down to the very last piece.

This is both an incredible tribute to the designers and stylists who conceive of the collections and also a measure of her wide reserves of self confidence. (Pulling off some of that stuff takes major courage.) She says:

“I like to take the dream and put it on me.”

If we could Anna, we would too.

But since we can’t, you’re the woman for the job.

As if you needed any more reason to have a raging fashion crush on this woman, she lives in Japan for crying out loud and does yoga in heels! (Thanks Marisa for the tip!) Plus, the woman actually smiles for photographs which is a rarity in the fashion world. I guess if I looked as good as she does all the time, I’d be grinning too.

For more on the fabulous ADR check here, here and (her Vogue Nippon blog) here.
