Object/Outfit + Ladurée & Luxirare

Oh it is a very good Friday here on LGTM. You know why? Because I have not one but two Object/Outfit posts on the site for you today!

I was so drop-dead, falling all over myself in love with these photos I saw recently on Luxirare, I couldn’t pick just one, I simply had to do both.

A quick note on Luxirare. This girl is brilliant, she takes crafting her own clothing and food to a new otherworldly level. I am completely fascinated by her blog. Part of me is desperate for a behind the scenes look at how everything is made and the rest of me is content to let it be a magical apparition that graces my inbox with its presence several times a month.

But I digress. Back to the photos which feature what is probably the eighth wonder of the world, the iconic macarons from Parisian bakery Ladurée.

If you’ve never had one, please put it on your list of things to do before you die. If you have, you know what I am talking about.

Either way, I hope you will enjoy this feast for the eyes of delicious object and outfits inspired by confectionary colors and great French style.

Save The Everything

When I was younger, I went through a very powerful environmental phase. If it could be recycled, I recycled it. If it could be adopted, I adopted it. If it could be emblazoned on a t-shirt in puffy paint and tie-dye you can be sure, I wore it.

Even though I may not be wearing it on my sleeve quite as much anymore, I haven’t forgotten about trying to save the world.

This Save the Whales shirt from LA label Wren appeals to both the thirteen year old inside me as well as my adult self. Not only is it a sophisticated way to broadcast a worthy cause, a portion of all sales goes to Save The Whales Again.

Even though I have left my tie-dye and puffy paint days behind me, I can still show my support for the things I believe in but now with more fashion appropriate gear.

And speaking of tees supporting a worthy cause, please check out this shirt from Mike Fretto. 100% percent of the proceeds will be donated to Partners in Health working in Haiti to bring relief after the devastating earthquake.

What I Wish I Wore Today

I have definitely logged some miles in my black slouchy boyfriend blazer this winter, I wear it with everything. When the weather finally warms up for real I will need a trusty new summertime update for my sundresses and shorts.

I love this one from Anthropologie, with it’s just-right feminine detailing.  I’d pair it with a glam cargo jumpsuit and metallic beret (I do love a nice beret). I’d top off my fantasy look with these awesome shoes by Jerrery Campbell for  Shoe Market.

Wish I could wear this look for our trip to Portland at the end of February! Something tells me it would fit right in in the Pacific NW.

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death

You may recall Liberty prints being a huge trend from last Spring. No, I am not caught in a time-warp. To me they still look great.

Not only am I advocating dusting off the ditsy florals in your closet, I am suggesting you wear them with…more florals!

A while back I saw an outfit that was a mix-and-match of different Liberty-inspired prints. It might sound funny but it looked fantastic.

With the right tailored pieces and an eye for colors that compliment each other, you’ll look as fresh and pretty as the models in Cynthia Seffe’s Spring 2010 line.

Here are some of my favorite floral pieces from the market right now.

Clockwise from top left: Say What Ditsy Floral Leggings (via Kohls); Liberty Floral Print Shirt (via My Theresa); Urban Outfitters Deena & Ozzy Spectator Oxford; Aurelie Bidermann Charm Bracelet (via Net-a-Porter); Hermes Pour Liberty Cotton Scarf; ASOS Silk Floral Trousers; Forever21 Floral Skirt.

Gimmie!

Having been a big fan of the oxford/brogue trend, my latest obsession is classic penny loafers. I have wanted a pair for some time now and have been on the lookout for the perfect ones.

And here they are from G.H Bass and Company, the original Wayfarer loafer.

For me they’re the perfect bit of menswear to mix with floral dresses and short skirts. Mark my words, I will have a pair of these soon to give a little bit of prep school attitude to the current contents of my closet.

Object/Outfit + Lena Corwin

I am a big fan of this fabulous blog by textile designer, illustrator, author, teacher, curator & fellow dachshund lover Lena Corwin.

Her blog ~>O<~ is one of my daily reads and quite frankly I am surprised that it has taken me this long to create an outfit inspired by one of her many photos.

I love Corwin’s aesthetic and point of view, her blog is a pictorial narrative of seasons, dinners, projects, friends, and inspiration.

It is always beautiful to look at and I often wonder if the Brooklyn she lives in is the same one that I do because in her photos it always looks so picturesque and homey.

This image was taken from a post titled goodbye summer. It perfectly captures that moment when Summer starts to fade into Fall.

The photo inspired an outfit that has all of the colors of summer but will keep you toasty until it actually arrives.

I love the vintage floral pattern on the Topshop dress. I can see myself wearing something like this through Spring and into Summer. Especially if I had these incredible Rachel Comey Smuggler Clogs to wear with it!

What I Wish I Wore Today

Now that the weather is pretending to get a little warmer I am playing with mixing some Spring fabrics into my Winter looks. Like wearing silk shorts with heavy tights or a gauzy shirt under my cashmere cardigan.

Lately I’ve been looking for the perfect chiffon skirt to pair with chunky sweaters and wooly tights for a little Winter-meets-Spring. This little number in ballet pink is perfectly sweet and at $38 it’s not going to break the bank.

I’d pair it with a gorgeous metallic sweater from Vince’s Spring line and a pair of edgy motorcycle boots lest anyone think I’m too sweet.

Outfit clockwise from top left: Vince Metallic Pullover Sweater (via Nordstrom); Fiorentini + Baker Eli Bootie (via Ped Shoes); Arden B Chiffon Slash Pocket Skirt; French Connection Wool Ribbed Tights (on sale!).

Gimmie!

How amazing is this Grotto Ring from Brooklyn jewelry designer Emily Miranda?

I am always looking for jewelry that is unique and sophisticated and I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like this before. Well, maybe it does remind me a little bit of a certain YSL ring I am obsessed with…but in the best possible way of course.

I love the rugged metal and the brilliant opal stone. It’s like a treasure waiting to be found at the bottom of the sea. Miranda’s jewelry all seems fit for a rock goddess like Stevie Nicks or under water ingenue like Ariel (if only she was a little more hip and a little less animated).

In addition to creating incredible jewels. Miranda also makes amazing cakes! Check her full collection of jewelry and confections on her website.

Not Just for Grannies

Hello! Sorry I didn’t get to post yesterday, the holiday threw me for a bit of a loop. Hope you all had a lovely weekend! The weather felt like springtime was on its way–even though I don’t believe it–and it did get me thinking (wishing) about what I am excited for when the weather gets warm.

As some of you may recall, The Spring 2010 RTW collections shocked and awed with the amount of pantless looks that strutted down the runway. Dolce & Gabana being a particular favorite of mine.

I know I was not alone in feeling intrigued and slightly horrified by this phenomenon. What did this mean for summer dressing? Are people in New York going to embrace this trend or pass on it? Will I be introduced to strangers’ butt cheeks on my morning commute?

Then, while browsing some of my favorite sites, I found it. The perfect way to embrace the pantsless trend for summer, swim!

I love the vintage look of these bikinis, the shape is something you might see on the beach in an episode of Mad Men, but right now it feels fresh and new to me again and something I imagine would look good on many different body types.

I’m not quite ready to put on a bathing suit yet but when I am, it will definitely be one of these!
