LGTM ♥ Weddings!

Over the weekend we did a little photo shoot with our wedding photographer Jenny Jimenez and we’re just thrilled with the results!

It wasn’t really an engagement session per se but a more casual, informal shoot to help us get used to being in front of the camera.

We cooked up some snacks and made this amazing cocktail before a walk around the neighborhood and an ice cream cone from VanLeeuwen.

I love these shots because they show us doing some of our favorite things. Cooking, eating and strolling through the neighborhood with Marlow in tow (who clearly stole the show, didn’t he?).

Check out the rest of the photos over on Jenny’s blog!

The Royal We

Congratulations to the Prince & Princess!

How many of you got up early to watch? It was a moving and beautiful event, I’m so glad I got out of bed for it.

Apologies for not being more present here on the blog this week. Andy and I have been very preoccupied with preparations for our own (much less royal) wedding. I had to take a moment to do a little illustration for Catherine & Wills though. I hope you like it!

Short & Sweet

I know I’ve been talking a lot lately (a bit too much perhaps) about growing my hair out for the wedding.

I think it’s time to give the short-haired brides some love too.

It isn’t that I always saw myself as a bride with a long mane. When Andy and I got engaged I was already in the process of growing out a blunt bob and just decided to see how far I could go with it.

I have always found a short-haired do on a bride to be incredibly chic and classy. A great cropped cut shows off your neck and your beautiful face (especially the smile) and, best of all, it doesn’t require a ton of work to keep it looking fabulous through the night. (Which leaves a whole lot more time for the important stuff like being the life of your own party.)

No matter what my hair length is on our big day, I just hope I am half as lovely as the gorgeous and glowing ladies collected here.

It’s been a while since I talked about anything wedding-related here on the site. We’re pretty far along in the planning process and down to the nitty gritty details that aren’t as fun to talk about.

I think that when your job is a creative one, it naturally permeates all of your creative endeavors professional or otherwise. I wonder if the fact that I am loving these all-white textured wedding cakes has anything to do with Spring’s big all-white dress trend?

You can be the judge of that! Here are some of my favorite cakes paired with some beautiful (and very complimentary) dresses for Spring!

Couldn’t resist one more quick post for you before we all get started on the weekend. I just love that Elizabeth Dye sent her models down the runway in these awesome neon tights for her 2011 Bridal Fashion Show. Such an unexpected blast of color!

Maybe not the right look for everyone’s big day but nothing says let’s party like a pair of colored tights!

Growing up, my family had a giant chalkboard mounted by our back door. Being the young artiste that I was considered myself, I used to dedicate hours towards trying to create chalk-masterpieces for all of the people coming in and out to admire.

If I had known then about the work of Brooklyn-based graphic designer/chalkboard artist extraordinaire Dana Tanamachi I would have just given up right there. Tanamachi creates wall-sized chalk installations that are as visually engaging as well as poignant and downright sweet.

With a keen eye and steady hand she creates unique full-scale signage that makes a serious impact. I for one, melted into a big puddle of awe when I first stumbled upon her work and I’m not the only one. Wedding super-bloggers from Martha Stewart and 100 Layer Cake have both swooned over Tanamachi’s awesome style.

I’m very (veeerry) excited to share with you that we’ve been working on a project with Dana for our own big day! That’s all I’m going to say about it but come on, you know it’s going to be good, right?

I know, it’s been forever since I put up a wedding-related post here on the blog but, we’ve been hard at work planning our big day.

The next big project to tackle are the paper goods: the save the dates and invitations.

Since Andy is a graphic designer (and I was one too once upon a time) we both really want the design of these two elements to be special and unique. For the save the date we are letting ourselves get really creative and conceptual. For the invitation I think we are going to do something a bit more traditional (but not too traditional).

I’ve been cataloging images of gorgeous calligraphy from wedding invitations for some time now. I love the beautiful, whimsical quality of this handwriting. I wish I could write like this!

It would be lovely for an invitation or even just a simple not to say I went to the store…

Quite a few people I know are getting married this year. I wanted to quit yapping about my own wedding and take a moment to say how thrilled and excited I am for every one of you. I am sending my heartfelt congratulations and warmest wishes to all of the people in my life who are also planning a wedding right now.

From my cousin, to one of my closest friends, to those of you I have known for years, to readers I haven’t ever met, it is such a special thing to share this  experience with you and I wish you all of the joy in the world for each and all of your big days!

Hello Gorgeous

Eeeeeeee! I got my wedding shoes and let me just tell you I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

Andy thinks I am absolutely crazy for buying shoes this early in the game. He’s sure I am going to fall to pieces over at least five or so more pairs before our big day.

I think otherwise, I ended up picking a pair that is elegant, simple and classic. No matter how many months, or trends (or years for that matter) go by, these shoes will always be absolutely gorgeous. I am going to have to put them on a very high shelf to keep myself from wearing them out on the town.

And no, you can’t see them yet!

LGTM ♥ Weddings!

Well, the big news is, I got my dress!!

Let me start by saying that this is not it. There are some things I want to keep mum on until the big day. It is a pretty great photo though, no?

I wanted to tell you a little bit about the shop where I bought the dress because it was such a wonderful experience.

This is in no way a sponsored post. I went to several bridal shops here in the city and none was as fun, intimate and happy as my time at Gabriella Bridal Salon.

The shop is tucked away on the second floor of a building in the Meatpacking District. It is an oasis of warmth and light filled with beautiful beautiful things.

The selection is hand-picked by owner Gabriella herself who honed her chops working with some of fashion’s big names before opening her own shop. From short to long to embellished to classic, the woman has a great eye.

I became fast friends with my bridal consultant who immediately got my sense of style. In the end I opted for a dress that was nothing like what I would have imagined but when I put it on, I just knew it was it. (Even though it took me three visits to actually buy the thing!)

Gabriella definitely gets the LGTM seal of approval!
