Fashion Crush: Dolly Parton

Just thinking about how much I love Dolly Parton. This is one of my favorite quotes.

Fashion Crush: Emma Watson

We just got home from seeing the latest Harry Potter movie and I had to take a few seconds to gush about how stinking great Emma Watson has been looking lately with her new pixie ‘do and killer clothing choices.

I’m sure after my recent post on Carey Mulligan you are going to think I am just a sucker for any actress who chops her hair but, you have to admit Emma wears it well.

You have to give the girl some credit. She grew up as a integral part of one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of our time (and wasn’t allowed to change her hairstyle for nine years–can you imagine?) She definitely deserved the chance to break out of the mold a bit.

It’s so refreshing when you see an actress push her limits in such a classy and cool way, don’t you think?

On top of that, the girl just knows how to wear clothes…

And I’m not the only one who’s noticed either, check out these gorgeous shoots with Miss Watson in this month’s fashion rags.

Fashion Crush: Carey Mulligan

Hello hello! I am back from Minneapolis where I believe we did my grandmother proud in celebrating her wild and precious life. My only regret is that she wasn’t able to see it but I suppose that is always the way, isn’t it?

I appreciate you all letting me take off for so long. I am excited to be back and to catch up on all of our favorite topics: fashion, wedding, food, music and shopping!

All of the traveling I’ve been doing of late has given me ample time to catch up on my magazine reading and I just have to swoon over this unbelievable spread featuring Carey Mulligan from the October issue of Vogue.

My fashion crush on Carey probably started with the dress she wore to the Oscars (Prada bedazzled with knives, come on!) and she has continued not to dissappoint.

For the Vogue shoot Grace Coddington styled Carey in some of the most gorgeous looks from the 2010 couture collections. I loooove the deconstructed set and off-kilter accessories (need. that. hat). They keep things feeling young, casual and super super cool, much like Carey herself.

J’ADR!

I have been meaning to put these pics of Anna Dello Russo up for a while now. I’ve already mentioned (once or twice) how much I idolize the woman…

I especially love seeing her in these dueling Dolce & Gabbana looks from their Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

With her killer body and even more cut style. ADR is a constant reminder of what makes fashion well, fashion.

Fashion Crush: Caycee Black

I am completely smitten with Summer collection from New York designer Caycee Black.

The clothing drapes around the body with a dancer’s sensibility of soft folds and fluid shapes. Graphic, hand-painted prints play against a palette of coral, mint and navy for a graceful summer look just waiting to be swept off of its feet.

Feminine and fresh, Black’s clothing begs to be treated to a cocktail on a city rooftop or lost in the woods during a summer romp.

I really love this mix print dress, don’t you?

Caycee Black’s collection can be purchased at Duo in NYC and Tootsies in Texas and Georgia. Check out this recent write-up of the designer in New York Magazine.

Fashion Crush: Sonia Rykiel

How can you not love Sonia Rykiel?

She creates sexy clothes for sexy women who know how to have fun. Quite the sexy woman herself, Rykiel’s signature look has inspired a thousand portraits. After Coco she is the only one to have added her own twist on the idea of the modern French woman.

Oh yeah, and she practically invented stripes. What more do you need ?

Fashion Crush: Anna Dello Russo

I have had a blossoming crush on Vogue Nippon’s Fashion Director Anna Dello Russo since I started noticing her vibrant and totally posh style on The Sartorialist about a year or so ago.

Anna is a true force of fashion, she is notorious for wearing looks plucked straight from the runway down to the very last piece.

This is both an incredible tribute to the designers and stylists who conceive of the collections and also a measure of her wide reserves of self confidence. (Pulling off some of that stuff takes major courage.) She says:

“I like to take the dream and put it on me.”

If we could Anna, we would too.

But since we can’t, you’re the woman for the job.

As if you needed any more reason to have a raging fashion crush on this woman, she lives in Japan for crying out loud and does yoga in heels! (Thanks Marisa for the tip!) Plus, the woman actually smiles for photographs which is a rarity in the fashion world. I guess if I looked as good as she does all the time, I’d be grinning too.

Fashion Crush: Siegerson Morrison

I love that in New York you never quite know who is standing right next to you.

Sure it could be a crazy person but it just as likely could be a Nobel Prize winner or supermodel or the first boy you kissed in the sixth grade.

This weekend I happened upon a Sigerson Morrison warehouse sale in the neighborhood.

Amid the hubub I struck up a conversation with a woman and I eventually realized she wasn’t just a fellow shopper, she was Sigerson herself!! Both she and Morrison were in the shop working their own warehouse sale.

I was a little awestruck. These successful, cool women with an established shoe line that people (like me) covet are in fact, amazingly friendly, sweet, affable people. It is always a great thing when you find out that the creators behind a line you adore are actually as likeable at the products they make.

These are some of my favorite styles from Sigerson Morrison’s Resort 2010 collection. All are available on their website.
