Object/Outfit + Color Collective

Color Collective is one of my favorite blogs to keep up with.

Not only does Lauren work with one of my favorite things (color!), she also pulls references that are always beautiful and cool. Like this amazing collage from Rasmus Emanuel Svensson.

Making a Color Collective-inspired look was long overdue. I hope you like my fun and fabulous color study.

I have wanted to make an outfit for this glorious gingham room from The Selby for a long time. It is from the home of Herve Pierre, creative director at Carolina Hererra. I love the mix of decadence, opulence and preppiness!

Here’s a perfect look to go with this great summer photo.

All you need is a sky blue tank, a good read and some killer shades. Oh yeah, and a cone on the boardwalk at Coney Island.

Object/Outfit + For Me For You

Today’s Object/Outfit inspiration comes from blog For Me For You and Kate’s great series titled Bits of my Weekend.

I loved this photo especially since I’m all about red on red dressing (like I’ve mentioned) especially with a pop of teal!

Object/Outfit + Saipua

Today’s Object/Outfit inspiration comes from Brooklyn flower shop Saipua. What I like best about Saipua is how they create gorgeous, sophisticated arrangements that aren’t too structured of fussy.

I check out their beautiful blog whenever I need a bit of sunshine. This white bouquet reminded me of how I’ve really been liking white on white dressing lately. It is so graceful and fresh for summer.

Here is my Saipua-inspired outfit. I’ve had my eye on that APC dress for some time now.

Pretty and laid-back, exactly how I want to look this summer.

Object/Outfit + Cup of Jo

Since I’m not going anywhere for the holiday weekend, I am choosing to live vicariously through the travels of others and and this amazing photo snapped by Joanna Goddard (of Cup of Jo) during her honeymoon in Italy.

Since Sex and the City 2 also premieres this weekend, I thought I would make today’s outfit larger (and more glamorous) than life and take advantage of the amazing sequin dress trend and feature some of my favorite accessories designers like Jamie Joseph and Meredith Wendell. So what do you think, would Carrie wear it?

Outfit clockwise from top left: Jamie Joseph Rainbow Moonstone Ring (via Claypot–though sadly, sold out); Meredith Wendell Medium Shaver in Sand/Uncle Peter; Charlotte Bjorlin D’Elia Star Earrings (via Barneys); Christian Louboutin Strappy V Sandal (via Bergdorf Goodman); Essie Nail Polish in Loophole; Proenza Schouler Sequin on Chiffon Dress (via MyTheresa); Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna (via Sephora–my bronzer of choice); Mercedes Salazer Large Woven Silk Bracelets (via Kitson Boutique)

I just glanced at Cup of Jo and saw the wonderful news of their new baby boy. Please join me in congratulating the new family!!!

Object/Outfit + Sweet Paul Magazine

I am very excited to announce that one of my blogger-pals Sweet Paul has just released the first issue of his new magazine!

Paul is a Norwegian-born food and prop stylist living in Brooklyn. I first was attracted to his blog for his beautiful use of color and shapes in his work (those Scandinavians, right?)

Now he has extended the blog format into a full-length online magazine with diy projects and beautiful recipes.

Today’s Object/Outfit posts is inspired by one of the photos from the magazine as well as color-blocking spread from the latest issue of J.Crew. I love the way both Paul and J.Crew mix pastels with neutrals for look that is fresh, unexpected and soft. It is the perfect inspiration for the beautiful Spring weather outside. I am going to be rocking my Spring color-blocked looks all weekend long.

Here is the cover. Read the full debut issue right here.

Object/Outfit + Margaret & Joy

Well, seeing as it is Easter weekend this weekend, I thought I would dedicate today’s Object/Outfit post to one of the holiday’s biggest celebrities. The egg.

This week I found the beautiful food styling website Margaret & Joy thanks to one of my favorite food blogs Oh Joy Eats.

I was instantly taken with their beautiful color palettes and appetizing photography. Their work makes you instantly hungry for something beautiful and delicious.

And so, here is my oeuf-inspired look for the Friday before Easter. I had fun playing with the metallic jacquard in this J.Crew skirt and pairing it with dressed down elements like these gorgeous A.P.C loafers.

While I wouldn’t exactly wear such great duds out and about on the farm, they’ll do me just fine for a stroll around the sunny city this weekend.

I only hope my Easter brunch looks half as delicious as a Margaret & Joy photograph!

Happy Easter and happy weekend everybody!

Object/Outfit + The Surf Lodge

Warmer weather always makes me want one thing: more warmer weather.

The recent Spring spell has me itching to take a trip to an exotic locale.

This year Andy and I have decided to put our funds toward redecorating the apartment instead of taking our usual Spring vacation. I am really excited about sprucing up the house, but I secretly wish we could get away for a bit too.

And I’m not yearning for the Bahamas or Mexico either. My destination of choice is just a train ride away: The Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY.

I recently discovered this hotel and am completely, head over heels obsessed. Breezy rooms feature macrame hammocks in the same space as Eames-era chairs and cool art books find their way onto shelves next to collected seaside artifacts. It’s like the set of a beach movie directed by Wes Anderson, in other words, a total dream.

But for now, I’ll have to be content with making a mental escape instead of a physical one. Here is my ideal vacation look inspired by the distressed wood and bright summer colors of the bar at The Surf Lodge. Where I would sit and drink what else? A Long Island Iced Tea.

Top photo from The Surf Lodge.  Outfit clockwise from top left: American Apparel Terry Halter Bra; Punchy Cocktail courtesy of Martha Stewart (recipe here); Levis Cords for Opening Ceremony Unisex Button Shirt; Made Her Think Spine Rings Chain Necklace (via Tenoversix); J.Crew Isle Floral String Hipster; Havaiana Flip-Flops; Athleta Raffia Crochet Tote (inspired by this one from Lanvin); French Connections by Silver Lining Sunglasses (via Refinery29).
