Sounds Good: Psychometry Vol. II

Hello! Sorry I’m posting so late today, I am getting a bit of a late start on everything today because I am on a mini-staycation (!!!) through the Fourth of July weekend. I plan on doing a lot of eating, drinking and lying in the park with my pup.

I’ll be be working too though, make no mistake. There are some changes to be made to the blog and of course, we’ve got some wedding planning-work to do. I really want to nail down a location and a date.  After that, it’s all about the fun stuff like flowers and favors and paper goods, yes!

I’ve already got my weekend soundtrack lined up though! Just in time for the holiday, Andy has put the next installment of his Psychometry podcast up on iTunes.

Get ready for a blast of summer cool! This makes me think of driving in the country to an unknown destination with the windows down and you hand surfing through the breeze. Sexycoolrelaxation, sign me up!

Sounds Good: Psychometry Podcast

Hello! I’m sorry I haven’t been posting this week.

Something rather exciting has come up and so I decided to take an impromptu break from blogging. I’ll be back next week I promise and I’ll tell you all about what is keeping me away.

I absolutely had to tell you about this new podcast by my P.I.C. and other half, Andrio Abero.

While there are many who regularly admire Andrio’s amazing design skills on his website. Not many people know he is also an awesome DJ–(unless you happen to find yourself on the dance floor during one of his sets)–until now, that is.

I am so excited to introduce you to Psychometry, Andrio’s new DJ podcast. Largely electronic with an indie bend, Andrio showcases his vast knowledge of the music industry in this new podcast series.

Sound Good: The Chapin Sisters

I grew up with a strong folk music foundation and I’ve never left it behind. It should go without saying then that I am a huge fan of LA-based sister group,

The Chapin Sisters.

These girls hit all the right notes for style and substance.

They look like they stepped out of Sofia Coppola’s film The Virgin Suicides with their flowing blonde hair and 1970s romanticism meets high-brow hippie style plus, their family is a folk-music legacy. And, I’ve been lucky to call these girls friends for most of my life.

Oh Hear The Wind Blow, is their latest effort.

The finely tuned harmonies and sweet and sorrowful vocals set them apart from the pack. For those who like singers like Neko Case and Jenny Lewis, I think you’ll love this album as much as I do.

Sounds Good: The National

This weekend Andy and I got to see The National play at BAM. This is no undiscovered little band, on the contrary The National has been majorly blowing up of late and with good reason. They’e awesome.

The band’s latest effort, High Violet is a total gem. Rich instrumentation is layered over the deep, rich molasses and whiskey-filled vocals that has become their signature sound. Put out with label 4AD, High Violet feels distinctly new for the band, clearly these boys have no intention of resting on their laurels.

To read more about The National, check out this article from the NY Times Magazine. NPR is also streaming High Violet on their website. Give it a listen and you’ll be hooked. And please, support the band and buy the record.

Damien Correll, the ever inventive and talented graphic designer/illustrator is probably best known for his collaborations with Zoo York and Urban Outfitters. His work also appears in Mike Perry’s hand-scrawled pattern classic Over and Over. Little do you know (or maybe you do, maybe you’re his best friend), he is also a master mix-maker. This past February Correll began posting a semi-regular podcast on his website. Each podcast features an hour of music curated by Correll and his friends and hopes to (in Correll’s words) bring something different to the table. The range of music is broad and eclectic and I wholeheartedly embrace the cameos of great rock and roll names like Talking Heads, T.Rex, The Raincoats, The Byrds and Brian Eno, that sound completely new again when mixed with more recent cult indie favorites and a handful of left-field bands like Orange Juice, Chris Bell, The Phenomenal Handclap Band and others I’ve never heard of but am glad to have discovered.
